I'm Musha, a Huddersfield DJ based in Shelley, and December's the busiest stretch of my year. Over five years I've played work Christmas dos, festive function nights and private parties all over Kirklees and West Yorkshire, from a small office party in a function room to a packed venue on a Saturday in mid December. A good Christmas do is about the same thing as any great night: someone who turns up early, reads the room and keeps everyone on the floor. The festive twist is getting the Christmas songs in without leaning on them all night. That's the bit a lot of DJs get wrong, and it's the bit I get right.
Everyone wants to hear the big festive tunes, and I'll play them, that's half the fun of a Christmas do. But nobody wants the same dozen Christmas songs going round all night, and by the third one the floor empties. So I weave the festive classics in around a proper party set: the floor-fillers, the sing-alongs and whatever your crowd actually moves to.
